Keep Your Smile Bright After Whitening

Woman with white teethYou finally treated yourself to a professional teeth whitening treatment. Now that your smile is so much brighter, you want to do everything to help keep it that way. Here are four tips to keep in mind.

Opt for Clear Liquids

Dark drinks aren’t always avoidable but substituting them with lighter liquids is better for your smile. Instead of red wine, choose white. Or select a clear soda over dark colas. It’s these little everyday actions that can help you keep your whitened teeth bright for as long as possible.

Drink Through a Straw

Are you indulging in a soda or other dark liquid? Keep a reusable (and environmentally friendly) stainless steel straw with you to drink with. Doing so will help the drink pass right by your front teeth, limiting the opportunity for new stain accumulation.

Brush More Frequently

To prevent new stains from settling into your porous tooth enamel, do your best to brush and floss after each meal. If you’re in a position where you can’t brush your teeth, try to rinse your mouth out thoroughly with water instead. This step will help to limit the amount of time that dark food and liquids have on your teeth.

Touch up After Your Checkups

The best time to touch up your whitening is after each scale and clean (when we polish off any surface stains that have accumulated since your last checkup). Since your teeth have already been whitened in the past, you will only need to touch up a few times with your home care kit.

You can pick up a refill tube of whitening gel from our office at any time. Store it in the refrigerator to help it last as long as possible!

And remember—book a scale and clean at least every six months. Contact us today to schedule.

Any invasive or surgical procedure may carry risks. Before moving forward, it is recommended that you seek a second opinion from an appropriately licensed medical professional.
