Cosmetic Bonding in Randwick

woman in dental chair with beautiful smileCosmetic bonding is one of the simplest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures available. It’s mainly used to treat minor chipped teeth, gaps, and staining in fillings and teeth. The procedure is fast and simple, and can be completed in one or two visits, depending on the choice of material.

How Does It Work?

Bonding is used to fill up the spaces between teeth to provide a more perfect symmetry for our patients. We fill up what’s missing, as a result of tooth brushing, acids, or maybe from a fall. Or the reason may be purely cosmetic—covering up discoloured teeth or changing the shape of the tooth.

We may make additions on either side of the tooth, or both, and on the length as well.
Different types of dental material are shaped and moulded to the tooth to give you a better smile. The simplest procedure is direct bonding a composite resin to the tooth with an adhesive in just one visit.

Other options include porcelain and zirconia materials which are created in the laboratory. Known as indirect bonding, our dentist takes a mould of the tooth on the first visit and sends it off for production. When it returns, the patient comes in for the addition to be cemented to the tooth.

Both processes effectively provide patients with a brighter, better smile. However the direct method is not as durable, only lasting four to seven years on average. The porcelain and zirconia productions used in the indirect method, while more costly, may last 20 years or more.

Care and Maintenance

Patients may receive a night guard to prevent tooth grinding while asleep. There are no special restrictions on food and drinks as the materials are made to withstand normal wear and tear. A good oral care routine should be maintained to help the patient remain in overall good health.
