Fissure Sealants in Randwick

One of the best ways to protect teeth from decay is fissure sealants. Oftentimes, the teeth (especially molars) have very deep grooves that are impossible to clean with a toothbrush or even by the dentist with dental cleaning instruments. Bacteria gets trapped in these grooves and cause decay.

At Randwick Dental Clinic, we offer fissure sealants for both children and adults as a preventive measure to keep the teeth healthy.

Our Approach

We will do a thorough examination of the teeth, particularly the back teeth, and let you know if any teeth would benefit from fissure sealant. If you decide to go forward with sealant, it’s a very simple process. The sealant is essentially a mini-filling that fills and seals the deep grooves, making the tooth smoother, easier to brush and less prone to bacterial buildup and decay.

In some cases, we find that decay has already started. In those instances, we will do a filling instead of the sealant. Since we do a thorough assessment every six months, if there is decay, we will have caught it very early and can address it quickly.

We recommend assessing the need for sealants beginning at about age five or six, when the permanent molars have come through.

What to Expect

Applying the fissure sealant is a very simple procedure that does not require anaesthetic or any down time afterwards. Because it’s not invasive, there is no pain during the procedure and therefore no need to numb the tooth. The sealant will last for many years, and can be done for adults even if they never had sealant as a child. If you had sealant as a child, you may need to have it replaced in your twenties or thirties.

Price of Fissure Sealants

The cost for a fissure sealant for an adult is $89, and $76 for a child (read about children discounts).

We can let you know the exact rebate and any gap using your card at the clinic, or you can contact your Fund about the item 171.

We also offer discounts and flexible payment options such as direct health fund rebate using HICAPS, as well as financing through Denticare and Afterpay. This way you’ll know exactly what fees are involved before you agree to treatment.

Schedule Today

Since fissure sealants can help prevent tooth decay in areas that are hard to clean, we highly recommend them for anyone with deep grooves. The process is inexpensive, painless and covered by health funds as well as the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
