What are a porcelain veneers?
A dental porcelain veneers is a thin wafer of porcelain made to cover the front surface of the tooth, designed to mimic the natural colour and appearance of teeth.
Porcelain is a very durable material – harder than enamel – and will, therefore, last for many years, avoiding decay and resisting staining.
Dental veneer only requires a minimal amount of tooth reduction, and is therefore a more conservative method for tooth restoration than a crown.
At Randwick Dental Clinic, we offer high-quality Sydney porcelain veneers (also known as dental veneers) to help improve your natural smile.
Porcelain dental veneer procedure
Why get porcelain veneers?
Our dentists can use veneers to close gaps between teeth, fix broken, chipped or discoloured teeth, and reshape teeth for a more aesthetic appearance.
Porcelain veneers are often referred to as ‘instant orthodontics’ as the dentist may be able to give you straight looking teeth in the space of two appointments as opposed to many years of regular orthodontics.
How long does it take to get porcelain veneers?
Typically the process takes just two visits.
During the first visit, your dentist will ‘plan your smile’, discussing the different options available to best complement your facial features choose the porcelain shade you desire.
The dentist will then prepare the teeth by removing a small amount of the enamel in order to accommodate the veneers and provide a surface better for a strong bonding.
The dentist will take impressions of your teeth to be sent to a dental laboratory with the shade of porcelain that you have discussed.
The Insertion Visit
During the second visit, your dentist will bond the veneers on your teeth, and further shaping and trimming the veneers to ensure your satisfaction.
How do you maintain the porcelain veneers?
Maintenance is fairly simple.
Continue to brush and floss your teeth regularly.
Despite porcelain veneers being stronger than normal enamel, they have a weak tensile strength and therefore you should avoid doing anything that may twist the veneers
Further sensitivity to hot and cold may be noticed for another couple of weeks – if this persists, contact your dentist
If you clench/grind your teeth, inform your dentist so they may provide you with a night guard to prevent excessive stress placed on your teeth while you sleep
How much do porcelain veneers cost?
Porcelain veneers in Sydney can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3000 depending on your individual situation.
Talk to your dentist at the consultation appointment to get an estimate of the costs before committing to the procedure. There is a wide range of veneers costs, as a result of the many variables involved with each patient.
